Simon Passmore is a composer and midi programmer based in Manchester.

He began composing and learnt to programme during the COVID lockdowns, and today works primarily in composition for media, where his music has been heard on a number of series and films. His mock-ups of Star Wars and Pixar music have also been featured in several online music magazines, and his mock-ups of The Incredibles End Credits and Star Wars Main Titles reached over 150,000 people on Twitter (including a like from Michael Giacchino himself!)

  • I work as a MIDI programmer for composers that would like to hear their orchestral works performed in a more realistic setting than in their notation software. If you’re lucky enough to be able to afford the tens of thousands to book a live symphony orchestra, then that is obviously the best option (!) - but I can give a convincing version using virtual instruments. Some of my mock-ups can be heard by clicking the ‘Programming’ tab at the top.

  • From 2024 I will be restarting 1-1 teaching, this is done in the form of feedback sessions where you send me your mock-ups and I’ll send back some specific ideas to help improve the sound. I also run a ‘Buy Me a Coffee’ page where I post lots of general ideas and some files from my own projects, membership is £3 or £5 a month.

  • My only composition work currently is music for media, so if you’re making a film or a series and would like to talk about working together on your project, please feel free to get in touch. If you’d like to hear examples of my work, they can be found by clicking the ‘Composition’ tab at the top of the page.
